Amazon.com Inc. stock rises Thursday, still underperforms market

Shares of Amazon.com Inc. inched 0.01% higher to $98.71 Thursday, on what proved to be an all-around positive trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index rising 0.30% to 3,948.72 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.23% to 32,105.25. Amazon.com Inc. closed $72.12 short of its 52-week high ($170.83), which the company achieved on March 29th.

The stock underperformed when compared to some of its competitors Thursday, as Apple Inc. rose 0.70% to $158.93, Microsoft Corp. rose 1.97% to $277.66, and Alphabet Inc. Cl C rose 1.96% to $106.26. Trading volume (57.2 M) remained 13.1 million below its 50-day average volume of 70.3 M.
