Launched at the tail end of 2020, the Xbox series X is still sold out across the UK. Supply chain issues stemming from the global shortage of microchip has left shoppers wondering where to buy Microsoft’s next-generation console.

The less powerful Xbox series S is easier to find, but the more advanced Xbox series X is in higher demand and sell out almost as soon as the new stock appears.

If you want to know where to buy an Xbox series X today, you’ve come to the right place. Our stock tracking liveblog will update you with the latest stock drops as soon as they happen, as well as any news on predicted restock dates and milestone events.

When will Amazon restock the Xbox?

08:56 , Steve Hogarty

It’s not just the Big Four supermarkets in the UK dragging their heels when it comes to Xbox restocks, the second biggest retailer on the planet is coming up empty-handed too.

Amazon has been staunchly sold out of the Xbox series X since 29 July, one month and one week and one day ago today.

Amazon France and Amazon Germany restocked in August, but unless you were prepared to stump up some hefty £100+ import charges it was far from the ideal way to purchase the console.

That said, we would pay a premium to own a rare Xbox imported from the continent. It would make us seem sophisticated and worldly at our Xbox dinner parties.

Is the Xbox in stock at Asda?

08:41 , Steve Hogarty

Putting Tesco to one side, Asda is perhaps the retailer that’s gone longest without an Xbox drop while still occasionally restocking Microsoft’s new console.

Asda last restocked the Xbox series X on 25 June. That’s a whopping 70 day dry spell.

The retailer restocks so sporadically that’s difficult to even guess when the Xbox might crop up there again. But don’t worry: we track every last UK retailer, regardless of how often they drop.

Which retailer’s gone the longest without an Xbox restock?

08:26 , Steve Hogarty

One metric we use for estimating the likelihood of an Xbox restock is how long it’s been since a retailer last had any stock of the Xbox series X.

But it’s an inexact science. For instance, Tesco has barely had any supply of the Xbox series X since shortly after the console launched in November 2020.

Rather than sitting high on our list of retailers most likely to restock the Xbox soon, we’ve relegated Tesco to the doldrums. The UK’s largest retailer appears uninterested in expending much energy vying for the limited supply of Microsoft’s next-generation console.

Xbox stock tracking, activate

08:10 , Steve Hogarty

Good morning, Xbox hunters!

Welcome to Friday’s Xbox stock tracking liveblog, where we’ll be monitoring UK retailers to bring you live updates on available Xbox stock as soon as it appears.

Now, we know what you’re thinking: who the heck restocks the Xbox series X on a Friday of all days?

Well plenty of retailers do, including Game. The online store restocked on Friday the 13th, defying superstition to sell Microsoft’s next-generation console in droves. Might they restock again today?

If there’s one thing after months of Xbox stock tracking, it’s that our quarry can arrive suddenly and without warning. Stick with us to be alerted to new Xbox stock as it arrives.

Xbox stock trackers, signing off

Thursday 2 September 2021 16:56 , Steve Hogarty

Well that’s all from us – let’s tot up the scores, shall we?

The number of Xbox series X restocks today was exactly zero. Oh no!

There were a few murmurings of a restock at Amazon earlier on, though these were just single, refurbished consoles sold through Amazon Warehouse. That’s the retailer’s second-hand sales portal, where you can find discounts on returned or slightly scuffed up merchandise. Side note: I bought my monitor through Amazon Warehouse, and there wasn’t a thing wrong with it.

Anyway, those one or two consoles were bought up instantly, and this certainly wasn’t the big Amazon drop we were hoping for.

Join us on the liveblog again tomorrow to be the first to know if the Xbox series X pops up at Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter. And, as always, have a lovely evening.

Is Xbox Game Pass better than PlayStation Now?

Thursday 2 September 2021 16:27 , Steve Hogarty

Microsoft and Sony both offer their own games subscription services. PlayStation Now and Xbox Game Pass allow players to pay a flat monthly fee to access a rolling library of hundreds of games, rather than purchasing games outright.

Launched in 2017, Game Pass was billed as gaming’s answer to Netflix. The service unlocks a library of more than 100 games, which subscribers are free to download and play at their leisure so long as they keep paying their subscription fee.

Later this year, Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to stream Xbox series X games on their Xbox One consoles via cloud gaming.

But is Game Pass actually worth the money? Have a read of our explainer and we’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Xbox Game Pass 2021: Is it worth the money?

What’s the price of the Xbox series X in the UK?

Thursday 2 September 2021 15:44 , Steve Hogarty

The chance of any more Xbox stock appearing today is slimming, so let’s brush up on the fundamentals.

We’re noticing more retailers are bundling the Xbox series X with extra games, controllers, peripherals and access to Game Pass Ultimate to extend the lifespan of their restocks and dissuade scalpers.

Naturally, this bumps up the price, so it’s worth keeping in mind how much individual products cost to determine whether a bundle is good value or not before it sells out. Here’s the cheat sheet. Write it down on a post-it note or scrawl it on your forearm.

  • The Xbox series X console is priced at £449.99.
  • The all-digital Xbox series S console is priced at £249.
  • The Xbox wireless controller is priced at £54.99.
  • The Xbox elite wireless controller series 2 is priced at £159.99.
  • Game Pass Ultimate costs £10.99 per month.

The Xbox series X headsets to look out for

Thursday 2 September 2021 14:50 , Steve Hogarty

When the console eventually graces us with its presence, the Xbox series X is often bundled with a headset to bump up the price and stave off scalpers.

The Xbox series X doesn’t come with its own headset but it’s compatible with all existing headsets for the Xbox One. The Xbox wireless controller (£49.99, Currys.co.uk) also has a headphone jack, so you can plug in your regular headphones to have game audio play through them rather than your TV, which is ideal if you’re sharing a room with somebody you don’t want to disturb.

If you need to upgrade or you don’t have your own headset yet, Microsoft sells the wireless Xbox series X headset separately (£89.99, Game.co.uk). Lots of third-party manufacturers make Xbox compatible headsets too. We’ve rounded up the best gaming headsets you can buy today.

How do you find an Xbox series X in store?

Thursday 2 September 2021 13:53 , Steve Hogarty

We’ve got every UK retailer’s website in our sights, so we’re always ready to let you know the moment the Xbox is in stock online.

Keeping track of new stock in physical shops around the UK is trickier, but it can be done. We rely on tips from shoppers, reports from Twitter, and sage advice from our dear old grandmother. Here are some tips for finding the Xbox series X in stock out there in the wild:

  • The retailers that occasionally have in-store stock are Argos and Smyths Toys. To a lesser extent we’ve heard of John Lewis & Partners, Currys PC World and Game having physical stock on the shelves or behind the counter
  • Enter your post code on the retailer’s online product page to check for local stock. If you can, scroll around to peek at other stores farther away from you.
  • Xbox not in stock? Don’t lose hope. Many stores don’t log returns or uncollected Xbox pre-orders back into their stock systems. Pop into your local shop in person and ask a member of staff.

Play Xbox series X games on your Xbox One

Thursday 2 September 2021 12:56 , Steve Hogarty

You’ll soon be able to play the newest games on any Xbox, old or new, which means you can start flying around the skies in Microsoft Flight Simulator (£59.99, Very.co.uk) long before you manage to buy an Xbox series X.

Previously only available on PC, tablets and phones, Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games directly from Microsoft’s servers without time-consuming downloads or fiddly installation procedures. You just press a single button and you’re right there inside the game. It’s almost magic.

You’ll need a fast internet connection and membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games.

When is the Xbox series X back in stock at Currys PC World?

Thursday 2 September 2021 11:58 , Steve Hogarty

Currys PC World restocked the Xbox series X thrice in August, breaking a month long dry spell with almost weekly drops of Microsoft’s next-generation console. When it rains it pours.

The retailer has seemingly gone back into hibernation, with nary a whisper of an Xbox since 19 August. Currys is one of a handful of retailers with a wish list and an app – we recommend you use both to buy the console when it’s in stock. The main product page gets hammered by traffic when the Xbox goes on sale, but by heading to your wish list inside the app, you can essentially skip the queue and bag the console more quickly.

There are just two criteria these deals have to meet. They must offer an enticing discount, and we don’t recommend anything we wouldn’t buy, eat, drink or sleep on ourselves. Go have a little peek. Don’t worry, we’ll emit an ear-piercing shriek if we see an Xbox.

What is Xbox All Access?

Thursday 2 September 2021 11:06 , Steve Hogarty

Game and Smyths both sell the Xbox series X through the Xbox All Access programme. But what is that exactly?

An alternative to paying £449 up front for the console, Xbox All Access lets you spread the cost of an Xbox series X or Xbox series S over two years. You pay 24 monthly instalments of £28.99, at the end of which you own the console outright. This includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the games subscription service allowing you to access more than 100 games on demand. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate usually costs £10.99 per month.

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

That works out as £712 worth of stuff for £695. Assuming the price of the Xbox series X or the cost of an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription doesn’t fall in the next two years, that makes Xbox All Access pretty good value for money.

You need to pass a credit check through the buy-now-pay-later service Klarna. You also need to find an Xbox in stock.

Stick with us and we’ll alert you as soon as consoles are available.

When is ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ coming to Xbox series X?

Thursday 2 September 2021 10:43 , Steve Hogarty © Provided by The Independent Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia (CD Projekt Red)

The Xbox series X is still sold out everywhere, so let’s take a quick gander at some next-gen news while we wait for updates.

As noted by VGC, CD Projekt Red’s Michał Nowakowski has suggested the Xbox series X version of Cyberpunk 2077 could slip into next year.

The dystopian shooter-RPG launched in September 2020, but was so buggy and prone to crashing that it was borderline unplayable. Cyberpunk 2077 was so broken in fact that Sony removed the game from sale until some of the most heinous glitches could be patched out.

After a few updates, CD Projekt Red’s game is in a much better state, but this recent Cyberpunk 2077 release date news suggests we could be waiting a little longer to dive back into a more polished, next-generation version of the developer’s blockbuster RPG.

Sony’s next-generation console is also hard to come by, but restocks come thick and fast. This morning has been particularly lively, with Currys PC World sending out VIP codes to lucky customers who signed up to its lottery months back, and Studio dropping a big cache of consoles on unsuspecting shoppers.

Do you need Prime to buy an Xbox from Amazon?

Thursday 2 September 2021 10:04 , Steve Hogarty

In July, Amazon took the bold step of restricting all sales of the PlayStation 5 to Amazon Prime customers. The move helps prevent automated bots from swooping in and instantly buying up all of the available stock before we humans have even had time to click. These bots belong to professional scalpers, who sell the PS5 on at an inflated price for profit. Grubby business, if you ask us.

So far, Amazon hasn’t placed the same restriction on the Xbox series X, but the retailer also hasn’t restocked the Xbox nearly as often.

If you were planning on signing up to Amazon Prime soon anyway, or you wanted to take the 30 day trial for a spin, it’s worth signing up before new Xbox stock arrives. If you wait until the drop happens, the console will have sold out by the time you’ve registered your details.

Will Xbox supply issues get worse before they get better?

Thursday 2 September 2021 09:42 , Steve Hogarty

In some other universe, right now you’d be playing on your new Xbox series X while sipping on a refreshing pint.

Instead, the global supply chain has gone kaput, with microchip shortages affecting everything from electric toothbrushes and next-generation consoles to smartphones, laptops and cars. Far from being over, the semiconductor shortfall looks set to continue for some time yet. As demand starts to return and pandemic savings are directed towards high-value electronics, the limited worldwide supply of Xbox consoles will be squeezed even further as we approach Christmas.

There are local supply chain issues to contend with too – Wetherspoons could even run out of beer.

Is the Xbox series X in stock at Very?

Thursday 2 September 2021 09:19 , Steve Hogarty

Everyone’s favourite hot-pink retailer, Very had the Xbox series X in stock as recently as last Tuesday, 24 August.

The retailer has restocked the Xbox exactly once every four weeks for the last three months, and always on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. Based on this pattern, we forecast another drop at Very on 21 September.

I know, right? That’s ages away.

Will Smyths drop the Xbox series X today?

Thursday 2 September 2021 09:05 , Steve Hogarty © Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

For reasons known only to Smyths Toys, lately the retailer is more likely to restock in physical stores rather than on its website. This means it’s pot luck whether or not you can pick one up locally.

Towards the end of August, Smyths sprinkled the next-gen console across its stores like so much fairy dust. Small handfuls of stock would appear seemingly at random at shops up and down the country – though there were accusations of bias towards the South.

It’s worth checking your local store once in a while for updates. Right now, we can’t see stock in any UK stores.

Can you buy the Xbox from Amazon France?

Thursday 2 September 2021 08:44 , Steve Hogarty

Let’s not bring politics into the civilised domain of the Xbox series X stock tracking liveblog, but one of the reasons it’s less appealing to purchase the Xbox series X from Ireland and most of mainland Europe is the big B-word.

Bacon. Sorry, Brexit.

When the Xbox is in stock on the French and German Amazon sites, you’ll have to pay import VAT, customs duty and handling fees to get it all the way to your doorstep in the UK. These extra charges can exceed £100 for an Xbox series X – meaning it could be cheaper to jump on the Eurostar to collect the console yourself.

Where is the Xbox series X in stock today?

Thursday 2 September 2021 08:28 , Steve Hogarty

Nowhere, to be perfectly honest. At least not right now.

Following yesterday’s thrilling restock at AO, we’re back to square one. But we’re poised to spot new Xbox series X stock popping up at Amazon very soon.

Besides a restock in France, and another in Germany, the retail giant hasn’t had the Xbox available in the UK since the end of July.

Welcome to Thursday’s stock tracking liveblog, where we’ll be monitoring every single retailer in the UK for even the smallest sign that the elusive next-gen console will be available.

Yesterday’s AO drop proved once again that the Xbox series X appears without warning and sells out fast. So, we’d recommend staying tuned so we can alert you as soon as it drops.

Without further ado, we’re going on an Xbox hunt (we’re not scared)!

That’s it from us for today, and what a day it’s been!

We hinted that we thought AO would do a stock drop because it made a sneaky change on its website, and then, low and behold it restocked the Xbox series X this afternoon. “Which retailer will go next?” we hear you ask. Well, our sights are set on Amazon, but it’s all to play for.

We’ll be back bright and early tomorrow. Until then, good night!

There’s a whole new Xbox series X we’re on the lookout for.

Announced last week, the Halo Infinite branded Xbox series X (£479.99, Game.co.uk) celebrates 20 years of Master Chief and boasts “a custom console design imprinted with stars as seen from the surface of Zeta Halo – extending onto the fan behind a blue vent inspired by Cortana”.

As always, we will alert you when it’s available to buy.

Xbox series X sells out at AO

Did you manage to get hold of one of the consoles while it was in stock at AO? We hope so!

The retailer did its first stock drop just before 2:30pm, but this sold out at lightning speed. And then, by some sort of hump day miracle, it did a second drop a 3:12pm, which lasted for 20 minutes, give or take.

While not the biggest drop, we’re certainly pleased that AO’s dry spell is now over. We had predicted a drop today too!

In what must have been lightning speed, the Xbox series X is now sadly sold out at AO.

We did however let you just earlier this afternoon that we’d noticed the small change on its website, with the retailer changing it from “out of stock” to “back in stock soon”. It’s still saying the same thing, so we’re hopeful that AO will drop more stock in the coming days.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cloud gaming on Xbox One

Wednesday 1 September 2021 14:45 , Eva Waite-Taylor

This could take the edge off not being able to find an Xbox series X in stock: you’ll soon be able to play the newest Xbox series X games on any Xbox, old or new, which sort of erodes the concept of owning a next-generation console when you think about it.

Previously only available on PC, tablets and phones, Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games directly from Microsoft’s servers without downloads or installation. You’ll need a fast internet connection and membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games.

This also enables Xbox gaming on any Windows laptop. In the market for a new one? We’ve rounded up the best laptops of 2021:

Xbox series X in stock now at AO

After we told you about the small change we’d spotted on AO’s website earlier, the Xbox series X is in stock right now at the retailer.

Here’s what you need to do. This only works on Google Chrome on the desktop.

  • On the AO website, copy the Xbox series X’s product code, and paste it somewhere safe. You can find this code by right click on the Xbox’s product page, selecting ‘Inspect’ and searching for “productCode”. The most recent bundle was product code “RRT-00007AO-KTS1”.
  • Now navigate to any random item on AO’s website. You’re just looking for a working “add to basket” button.
  • Right-click on the green “add to basket” button beneath the random item and click ‘Inspect’. In the panel that appears at the side of the screen, replace the random product’s code with the Xbox’s product code. It’s the series of numbers and letters that immediately follows ‘data-productcode=’

How to secure an Xbox series X

Wednesday 1 September 2021 13:45 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (Xbox)

The Xbox series S is the less powerful version of the Xbox series X, but it’s still a fantastic games machine. And if there’s one major advantage it has over the more advanced Xbox series X, it’s that you can actually buy one right now.

The Xbox series S is backwards compatible and runs the same next-generation games, but at lower resolutions and with some of the fancier graphics options dialled down or switched off. It also doesn’t have a disc drive, so you can’t play your physical games collection, only the games that you download.

For that reason the Xbox series X is considered by purists to be the “true” next-generation Xbox, and so the more powerful console is in much higher demand. This means it’s relatively easy to find the Xbox series S in stock online. Here are a few spots you can pick one up today.

AO let’s GO!

The Xbox series X is still sold out at AO. But, we’ve spotted that a change has been made to the console’s product page. The device had previously been listed as “out of stock”, but now it says “back in stock soon”. Something similar usually happens at the likes of Amazon, Game and Currys PC World ahead of a “big” restock.

Whenever AO does restock, you do need to know a few tips in order to make sure you can be in with the chance of winning because the “add to basket” button will stay firmly greyed out, despite the console actually being available to purchase.

Smyths Toys Xbox series X stock

Wednesday 1 September 2021 11:45 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

Smyths Toys is currently sold out of the Xbox series X but more could be arriving soon.

The retailer restocked the Xbox All Access programme on 5 August. We also hear that it’s possible to find the console in certain physical stores, but of course, you’ll have to ask (plead) nicely.

When the Xbox is in stock online, Smyths is one of three retailers – along with Game and 4Gadgets – to offer the Xbox All Access programme, a pay-as-you-go alternative to buying the console at full price. You pay £28.99 per month for 24 months, get Xbox Game Pass Ultimate thrown in, and own the console at the end of the term.

The retailers overdue an Xbox series X restock

Wednesday 1 September 2021 11:30 , Eva Waite-Taylor

Truth be told, there are quite a few retailers due an Xbox drop:

  • Asda — The retailer’s online store had the Xbox series X in stock on 25 June, but since then the console has been sold out. Asda gives no indication of when it expects new stock to arrive, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the store page over the coming weeks for fresh availability
  • Argos – The retailer most recently restocked on 5 August. Again, the best way to check out with the console is to add it to your wish list and hit the buy button from inside the Argos app
  • John Lewis & Partners – New stock briefly appeared on 12 July, and before that on 7 July and 22 June, each time selling out in a very short space of time. The online retailer usually adds new items to the website in the early hours of the morning — around 7am if you fancy setting your alarm

What’s the difference between the Xbox series X and Xbox series S?

Wednesday 1 September 2021 11:15 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

The Xbox series X and Xbox series S both run the same next-generation games (as well as older Xbox games through backwards compatibility), but the cheaper Xbox series S has less processing power under the bonnet. This means graphics won’t look as detailed and performance may be a little slower.

For that reason, the Xbox series X is considered to be the “true” next-generation console here – but both consoles are excellent games machines. The Xbox series S has another big advantage in that it’s much easier to find in stock than the Xbox series X.

The Xbox series S costs £249 (Amazon.co.uk), which looks positively bargainous compared to the Xbox series X at £449 (Amazon.co.uk).

Does Currys PC World have Xbox in stock?

Wednesday 1 September 2021 11:00 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (The Independent)

The short answer is no, Currys PC World does not currently have the Xbox series X in stock.

The all-new (can we call it new when it’s nearly a year old?!) console was last in stock on 19 August, so we’d hazard a guess and suggest the retailer hasn’t got any left in its chamber.

But, when it’s in stock, we advise adding the console to your wish list and attempting to complete your purchase through the Currys app. Similarly, we’d suggest signing up to stock notifications so you’re in the know as soon as it drops.

Where to find the Xbox series X IRL in store

Wednesday 1 September 2021 10:45 , Eva Waite-Taylor

Xbox stock tracker tools are best at detecting the online stock of Microsoft’s next-generation console. Keeping track of the Xbox series X in physical stores is trickier, but can be done.

Here are some tips for finding the Xbox series X in stock IRL in stores:

  • The retailers rumoured to have in-store stock are Argos and Smyths Toys. To a lesser extent, we’ve heard of John Lewis & Partners, Currys PC World and Game having physical stock
  • Enter your postcode on the retailer’s online product page to check for local stock. If you can, scroll around to peek at other stores further away from you
  • Xbox not in stock? Don’t lose hope. Many stores don’t log returns or uncollected Xbox pre-orders back into their stock systems. Pop into your local shop in person and ask a member of staff

When can you expect the Xbox series X in stock

Wednesday 1 September 2021 10:30 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (The Independent)

Much like every other retailer right now, the Xbox series X is currently out of stock at John Lewis & Partners. The last drop we saw was in mid-June, and after that, it showed its face in late April and on two occasions in March. But, alas each time it sold out in a very short space of time, as you’d expect.

The online retailer usually adds new stock to the website in the early hours of the morning, around 7am – so we recommend setting your alarm to be in with the chance of sniping Microsoft’s new console.

We’ve also heard reports of in-store drops at John Lewis & Partners, so we’d always recommend checking in with your local store on the off chance that they have any of the next-gen consoles lying about.

When will Argos stock the Xbox series X?

Wednesday 1 September 2021 10:15 , Eva Waite-Taylor

Ah, the million-dollar question!

The retailer most recently restocked on 5 August, which is frankly a long old time ago. So, we are hoping for something soon.

It’s also worth noting that Argos generally restocks between 12:45am and 2:45am, or at 8am. We’d recommend adding the console to your wishlist to be in with the chance of securing it when it’s back and buying through the Argos app.

The best VPN to use with your Xbox series X (when it arrives)

Wednesday 1 September 2021 10:00 , Eva Waite-Taylor

The Xbox series X has excellent built-in security when playing games online, but there are still reasons why you might want to install a VPN on an Xbox.

If you use your Xbox to watch Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video or some other online streaming service, a VPN allows you to spoof your location and access TV shows and movies not normally available in your country.

To keep your Xbox series X running at peak performance, you’ll want to make sure the VPN you choose is fast and responsive enough to avoid lag and dropouts when playing online – check out our round-up of the best VPNs for torrenting, streaming and gaming

Is Xbox series X in stock at Amazon now?

Wednesday 1 September 2021 09:45 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (The Independent)

The Xbox series X is not in stock at Amazon, but we are expecting new stock to arrive in the coming days or weeks.

The online retailer is due to restock the PlayStation 5 today – check out our PS5 stock tracker for updates – and we think that Microsoft’s next-gen console won’t be far behind.

Whereas Amazon restricts sales of Sony’s next-generation console to Prime customers, the Xbox gets no such protection. As such it’s exposed to automated bots and unscrupulous resellers and sells out in the blink of an eye.

You have to have fast fingers to get one into your basket. Make sure you’re signed in to your Amazon account and make sure your payment and delivery information is up to date. If you haven’t already, register for a 30 day trial of Amazon Prime in case the Xbox series X is exclusively available to those hallowed customers.

It has been an entire month since the last drop, so we’re overdue for some serious Xbox action at Amazon. Keep your eyes peeled!

‘Fifa 22’ on Xbox series X

Wednesday 1 September 2021 09:30 , Eva Waite-Taylor

As we are now officially in September (sorry, but how did that happen?) you’ve not got long to wait until Fifa 22 is out. The game is launching on 1 October but is available to pre-order at a number of retailers.

Currently, the cheapest price we’ve seen is at Very, where you can pre-order Fifa 22 (£64.99, Very.co.uk) so that it’ll arrive on release date.

The game’s developer spilt the beans a couple of weeks ago, sharing some of the features coming exclusively to next-generation consoles. Chief among them is more detailed commentary, in which individual player milestones, goal records, winning streaks and your team’s league performance are all remarked upon by commentators.

Does Game have the Xbox in stock?

Wednesday 1 September 2021 09:15 , Eva Waite-Taylor © Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

Based on previous restocking patterns, Game is likely to have the Xbox series X in stock soon.

The retailer last dropped Microsoft’s next-generation console on 13 August, and 10 days before that on 3 August.

One of Game’s “tells” is how the retailer prematurely activates its “buy now” button, up to 24 hours before the console is actually available for purchase. It’s currently still saying it’s out of stock, but of course, we’ll let you know if that cheeky little button lights up.

Microsoft Store Xbox series X restock update

Wednesday 1 September 2021 09:00 , Eva Waite-Taylor

Pre-orders for the Halo Infinite limited edition Xbox series X opened on 25 August and quickly sold out at Microsoft, while the standard Xbox series X was last available on 10 August. As ever, the consoles are snapped up in minutes, so you have to be quick.

While it’s currently showing as out of stock on the website, weirder things have happened so you never know whether it might reappear today. Although we won’t hold our breath.

Where is the Xbox series X in stock today?

Wednesday 1 September 2021 08:15 , Steve Hogarty

It’s a new month and a clean slate. Let’s take a look at the retailers where we predict the Xbox series X will appear first in September.

AmazonHigh chance. The retailer is rumoured to be restocking the PlayStation 5 today, and we predict that Microsoft’s next-gen console won’t be far behind. It’s been an entire month since Amazon last sold an Xbox in the UK, so we’re overdue a little Xbox action.

GameGood chance. While it had pre-orders open for the Halo Infinite limited edition Xbox series X, the retailer last restocked the regular Xbox series X on 13 August. That’s two and a half weeks ago, which means another restock could be coming up very soon.

Currys PC WorldWouldn’t put it past ‘em. Currys gets our coveted “wouldn’t put it past ‘em” award this morning. Why? Well the retailer restocked the Xbox series X for three weeks in a row from the beginning of August. Since then Currys has gone two weeks without a drop, and we can sense the pressure building.

Good morning Xbox hunters!

Welcome to Wednesday’s Xbox stock tracking liveblog, where we’ll be monitoring every UK retailer for signs of Microsoft’s elusive next-generation console. If Currys PC World so much as whispers the word “Xbox”, we’ll be banging on its door demanding a full explanation.

The Xbox series X appears without warning and sells out in minutes. Stay with us to be alerted to available stock as soon as it happens – our personal best is around seven seconds between new Xbox stock arriving and us bleating about it like a scorned goat.

Xbox stock trackers, signing off

Tuesday 31 August 2021 16:55 , Steve Hogarty

Well, what a nice way to ease ourselves into the four-day week.

There has been no new Xbox series X stock released today. I’ve just been sitting here, doing sudoku puzzles and learning to play the flute.

Though Tuesday might have been a dud, it rounds off a month of huge Xbox restocks and an apparent turnaround for the jammed up supply chain that’s dogged the console since launch. As we enter September – and approach what promises to be the biggest online shopping season in history – we’re expecting more frequent restocks of Microsoft’s next-generation console.

Our parting tip? Keep an eye on John Lewis & Partners tomorrow morning at 7am – the retailer has a habit of adding new products to the site at the same time each day, so if new Xbox stock arrives, it will be while you’re eating your Coco Pops.

Join us again tomorrow to be the first to know when new stock pops up.

Where is the Xbox series S in stock?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 16:18 , Steve Hogarty © Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

The Xbox series S is the less powerful version of the Xbox series X, but it’s still a great games machine. And if there’s one major advantage it has over the more advanced Xbox series X, it’s that you can actually buy one.

There are two ‘Halo Infinite’ Xbox controllers

There’s a standard Halo Infinite themed controller that comes bundled with the newly announced Halo Infinite themed Xbox series X.

But there’s also a new elite controller (pictured above) themed around Master Chief’s iconic armour, which launches in November and can now be pre-ordered from the Microsoft Store.

Here are your basic Xbox series X controller options, setting aside the glut of other limited edition pads out there.

  • Xbox wireless controller: From £49.99, Amazon.co.uk
  • Xbox elite wireless controller series 2: £159.99, Argos.co.uk
  • Xbox elite wireless controller series 2 – Halo Infinite limited edition: £179.99, Xbox.com

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cloud gaming on Xbox One

Tuesday 31 August 2021 14:24 , Steve Hogarty

You’ll soon be able to play the newest games on any Xbox, old or new, which means you can start zooming around the skies in Microsoft Flight Simulator (£59.99, Very.co.uk) long before you buy an Xbox series X.

Previously only available on PC, tablets and phones, Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games directly from Microsoft’s servers without downloads or installation. It’s almost magic.

You’ll need a fast internet connection and membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to more than 100 games.

This also enables Xbox gaming on any Windows laptop. In the market for a new one? We’ve rounded up the best laptops of 2021.

What about PS5 stock?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 13:31 , Steve Hogarty

Sony is also facing supply chain issues with its own next-gen console. The PlayStation 5 is in high demand, but it’s slightly easier to find on the shelves than the Xbox series X right now.

We have a good idea of which retailers are most likely to restock the PS5 next, but you still have to be quick to grab one when they appear. Follow our PS5 stock tracking liveblog for more updates on new PS5 stock as it arrives.

Take a look at the limited edition ‘Halo Infinite’ branded Xbox series X

Tuesday 31 August 2021 11:36 , Steve Hogarty

Announced earlier this week, the Halo Infinite branded Xbox series X (£479.99, Microsoft Store) celebrates 20 years of Master Chief and boasts “a custom console design imprinted with stars as seen from the surface of Zeta Halo – extending onto the fan behind a blue vent inspired by Cortana.”

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

Naturally, pre-orders of the even rarer Xbox console sold out quickly before appearing on auction sites at enormously inflated prices. Sigh.

As a side note, we’ll never direct you to auction sites or second-hand resellers where the Xbox series X is available – purchasing an Xbox this way encourages scalping and pushes up the cost of the console for legitimate buyers.

We’ve tuned our Xbox stock trackers accordingly and will alert you when pre-orders of the new Halo themed Xbox are available.

Is the Xbox series X in stock at Amazon?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 10:52 , Steve Hogarty

Amazon is ripe for an Xbox restock.

The retailer is rumoured to be restocking the PlayStation 5 today, and we predict that Microsoft’s next-gen console won’t be far behind. It’s been an entire month since Amazon last had sold an Xbox in the UK.

Here are some handy tips for bagging an Xbox from Amazon:

  • Make sure to use Amazon Smile – a separate website that gives a portion of the cost of your purchase toward a chosen charity of your choice. Amazon Smile gets a lot less traffic than the regular Amazon website, so if there are issues, Smile should work better
  • Add the console to your wish list and then add it to your basket. We’ve found more success checking out this way

When will Asda have the Xbox series X in stock?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 10:31 , Steve Hogarty

Lately, Asda has been dragging its heels when it comes to restocking the Xbox. The last time the retailer’s “buy now” button lit up was 25 June, which is somehow 67 days ago now.

We’re unlikely to see Asda restock the Xbox this week, but it’s these infrequent stockists that can blindside us with fresh Xbox stock when we least expect it. We remain on high alert.

How do you find an Xbox series X in store?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 10:10 , Steve Hogarty

We have an elaborate network of digital tripwires and Xbox stock alerts set up to let us know the moment an online retailer has the console in stock.

Keeping track of new stock in physical shops around the UK is trickier, but it can be done. We rely on tips from shoppers, reports from Twitter, and the particular arrangement of tea leaves at the bottom of our mugs.

Here are some tips for finding the Xbox series X in stock out there:

  • The retailers rumoured to have in-store stock are Argos and Smyths Toys. To a lesser extent we’ve heard of John Lewis & Partners, Currys PC World and Game having physical stock.

What are the chances of a Very restock today?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 09:48 , Steve Hogarty

Very had a giant Xbox restock last Tuesday, when it bravely sold the console at the same time as the PlayStation 5. A single waiting room was all that stood between an army of shoppers and a total server meltdown.

That had been the retailer’s first restock in about a month, which places Very near the bottom of our list of retailers likely to restock the Xbox soon.

Stranger things have happened though, so we’ll keep checking for new availability at Very.

Will Currys restock the Xbox series X today?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 09:29 , Steve Hogarty

Currys PC World is rocketing up our list of retailers we think are most likely to restock the Xbox series X next.

The retailer had a major Xbox sales bonanza – and we don’t use the term bonanza lightly (or even quite know what it means) – on 19 August. The console sold out in 20 minutes as more than 20,000 customers swarmed the electronics retailer’s website.

That was the third restock in as many weeks for the electronics retailer, so by that schedule we’re now overdue another Xbox stock drop.

Currys PC World is yet another retailer where we recommend you download the app and slip the Xbox series X into your “save for later” list. When a drop happens, the main Currys PC World site gets hammered with traffic. By using the app you can essentially sneak round the back entrance.

Will Smyths drop the Xbox series X today?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 09:10 , Steve Hogarty

Smyths Toys is currently more likely to restock in physical stores rather than on its website.

In recent weeks we’ve spotted the console popping up in places far and wide. It’s worth checking your local store once in a while for updates. Right now, using our powerful stock tracking binoculars, we can’t see Xbox stock in any UK stores.

Smyths Toys is also one of three retailers stocking the Xbox All Access programme. The console was last available to purchase through that programme on 5 August.

Does Game have the Xbox in stock?

Tuesday 31 August 2021 08:54 , Steve Hogarty

Let’s interrogate some retailers.

Game restocked the Halo Infinite limited edition Xbox series X bundle on Wednesday last week, 25 August. So far Game is the only retailer besides the official Microsoft Store to sell pre-orders of the starry, Halo themed console and controller.

© Provided by The Independent (Microsoft)

But that special Xbox doesn’t launch until November. Game last restocked the regular Xbox series X on 13 August. Two and a half weeks ago, which means another restock could be coming up soon.

One of Game’s “tells” is how the retailer prematurely activates its “buy now” button, up to 24 hours before the console is actually available for purchase. We’ll let you know as soon as that button so much as changes hue.

The Xbox series X is currently out of stock

Tuesday 31 August 2021 08:39 , Steve Hogarty

The Xbox series X is sold out everywhere right now, but did the Xbox restock over the bank holiday weekend, while our backs were turned?

Yes, it did, but only as part of a pricey bundle over at eBuyer. The Xbox series X console was sold with the Turtle Beach stealth 600 gaming headset (£89.99, Game.co.uk).

It was a shrewd choice for buyers in search of Xbox accessories, as the top-rated gaming headset also appears in our list of the best gaming headsets for Xbox.
