Stock market update: Sugar stocks up as market rises

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed higher in the Thursday’s session.

Ponni Sugars(Erode)(up 5.83%), AVADHSUGAR(up 3.45%), BAJAJHIND(up 2.61%), Sakthi Sugars(up 2.59%), Shree Renuka Sugars(up 2.02%), K.M.Sugar Mills(up 1.98%), Dalmia Bharat Sugar & Industries(up 1.98%), Ugar Sugar Works(up 1.92%), EID Parry(up 1.73%) and Balrampur Chini Mills(up 1.54%) stood among the top gainers.

Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals(down 2.32%), DCM Shriram Industries(down 0.91%), Bannari Amman Sugars(down 0.70%), MAGADHSUGAR(down 0.45%), Kothari Sugars & Chemicals(down 0.26%) and Uttam Sugar Mills(down 0.08%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 20.0 points up at 18035.85, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 44.42 points at 61319.51.

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 5.69%), Tech Mahindra(up 5.49%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprises(up 3.46%), Divis Laboratories(up 1.91%), Nestle India(up 1.91%), Tata Steel(up 1.54%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(up 1.43%), Coal India(up 1.2%), Tata Consultancy(up 1.06%) and Adani Enterprises(up 0.98%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Bharat Petroleum Corporation(down 1.65%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(down 0.87%), Hindustan Unilever(down 0.84%), Bajaj Finance(down 0.81%), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 0.81%), Eicher Motors(down 0.67%), Hero MotoCorp(down 0.59%), Tata Motors(down 0.57%), SBI Life(down 0.53%) and Maruti Suzuki(down 0.46%) closed in the red.
