Truck slams into SP leader's car in UP, drags it for 500 m: Video

It was a lucky escape for Samajwadi Party leader Devendra Singh Yadav on Sunday night when a truck slammed into his car and dragged it for nearly half a kilometre.

The accident took place near Bhadawar House in Mainpuri Sadar Kotwali area of Uttar Pradesh. SP district president Devendra Singh Yadav was on his way home alone by car.

Details are yet to come in on how it happened. A video reported by news agencies showed a large container truck pushing Yadav’s car along a slightly busy road. People on bikes were following it, and a lot of people could be seen shouting and running behind.

It seemed from the video that the truck had ploughed into the side of the car from the right and dragged it along without stopping.

The video then showed the people trying to pull Yadav out of the car, after the truck had come to a halt.

Yadav did not suffer any serious injuries. A complaint was registered in the matter and the truck driver was arrested.

“Samajwadi Party leader’s car was hit by the truck after which it was dragged for more than 500 meters. The truck driver from Itawa has been arrested. The investigation is underway,” ANI quoted Kamlesh Dikshit, Superintendent of Police, Mainpuri, as saying.

The Samajwadi Party later tweeted that Yadav was saved due to God’s grace.
