U.S. shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.76%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.76%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.19%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 2.01%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 3.59% or 1.05 points to trade at 30.27 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 3.05% or 4.62 points to end at 155.87 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 2.35% or 3.24 points to 141.11 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Procter&Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which lost 1.34% or 1.92 points to trade at 141.05 in late trade. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 0.93% or 0.37 points to end at 39.63 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 0.86% or 2.27 points to 260.97.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which rose 9.22% to 76.53, Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which was up 8.66% to settle at 41.79 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which gained 7.74% to close at 143.75.

The worst performers were Xylem Inc (NYSE:XYL) which was down 7.95% to 101.42 in late trade, SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which lost 3.55% to settle at 286.27 and Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) which was down 2.60% to 55.86 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Gbs (NASDAQ:INBS) which rose 293.13% to 1.03, Helbiz Inc (NASDAQ:HLBZ) which was up 109.13% to settle at 0.43 and VERB TECHNOLOGY COMPANY INC (NASDAQ:VERB) which gained 69.65% to close at 0.39.

The worst performers were Catalyst Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CPRX) which was down 29.04% to 14.76 in late trade, Atlis Motor Vehicles Inc (NASDAQ:AMV) which lost 25.11% to settle at 3.40 and Ontrak Inc (NASDAQ:OTRK) which was down 21.23% to 0.83 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2209 to 843 and 120 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2359 rose and 1347 declined, while 203 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.20% to 19.81.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.23% or 4.35 to $1,932.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $81.64 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.48 to trade at $88.11 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.84% to 130.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 101.79.
