National company plans 1,000 new senior apartments, assisted living at Lakewood Ranch

Jan. 26—LAKEWOOD RANCH — A major player in the senior living world is coming to Lakewood Ranch with plans for 1,020 independent senior living apartments and a 250-bed continuous care skilled-nursing facility.

Erickson Senior Living would build the senior living facility north of State Road 70 and east of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard with the main entrance off Newhaven Boulevard.

Developers recently filed paperwork with Manatee County Building Services for phase one which would include 660 apartments and phase two which would consist of 360 senior living apartment units along with parking, utility and stormwater Infrastructure.

Erickson Senior Living, headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, is one of the largest developers, operators and managers of continuing care retirement communities in the United States.

It has 23 properties in 11 states serving more than 28,000 residents ages 62 and older with more than 14,000 employees, according to the company website.

Erickson Senior Living is planning to invest nearly $3 billion in development and new construction at new and existing communities over the next five years, the company says.

Lakewood Ranch has grown to more than 60,000 residents and for the fifth consecutive year has been recognized as the best-selling, master-planned multi-generational community in the country by RCLCO and John Burns, two independent real estate consulting firms.

In 2022, Lakewood Ranch saw 1,846 new home sales.

Senior living facilities already operating at Lakewood Ranch include:

— The Sheridan, 11705 Evening Walk Drive, Lakewood Ranch

— The Windsor, 8230 Natures Way, Lakewood Ranch

— Grand Living, 7230 University Pkwy., Sarasota

— Cypress Springs, 9085 Town Center Pkwy., Lakewood Ranch.

In 2022, U.S. News & World Report listed several Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota and Sun City facilities among its 2022-23 Best Senior Living Communities.
