Mutual funds witnessed significantly lower inflows during April-November 2022: Economic Survey

As per the economic survey 2022-23, mutual funds witnessed significantly lower inflows during the April – November 2022 period. Mutual funds witnessed net inflows of Rs 71,000 crore during April – November 2022, compared to Rs 2.28 lakh crore during the same period a year ago.

Some growth/equity- oriented schemes and solution-oriented schemes witnessed significantly higher inflows during April – November 2022 period, compared to the same period a year ago.

As per AMFI data, growth/equity-oriented schemes and solution-oriented schemes witnessed inflows of Rs 1.53 lakh crore and Rs 1,554 crore respectively.


On the other hand, Income/Debt Oriented Schemes and hybrid schemes recorded outflows during April-November 2022 period. Income/Debt Oriented Schemes and hybrid schemes witnessed outflows of Rs 1.98 lakh crore and Rs 7,845 crore respectively. Outflows from liquid funds and hybrid funds were mainly because of increasing interest rate cycles, liquidity requirements and advance tax commitments by the corporates.

The other category that mainly includes the passive schemes such as Index Funds, Gold ETFs, Other ETFs and FoFs investing overseas witnessed net inflows of Rs 1.49 lakh crore during the first eight month period of current financial year compared to inflows of Rs 87,000 crore during the same period a year ago.

As per the economic survey, the gross resource mobilization during April – November 2022 amounted to Rs 69.1 lakh crore from 58.6 lakh crore during the same period a year ago. The number of folio increased from 11.7 crore in April-November 2021 to 14 crore in April – November 2022.

The total asset under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry at the end of November 2022 witnessed an increase of 8.45% on a year-on-year basis. The redemptions from mutual funds increased to Rs 68.4 lakh crore during April – November 2022 period from Rs 56.1 lakh crore during April – November 2021 period. The total mutual fund industry AUM at Rs 40.4 lakh crore at the end of November 2022 compared to Rs 37.3 lakh crore a year ago.
