The two-day poll, completed Wednesday, March 12, found that 56 percent of respondents — including 89 percent of Democrats and 27 percent of Republicans —agreed that Trump was too close to Moscow.

In contrast, 40 percent disagreed, and four percent did not answer the question.

Trump has dramatically shifted US foreign policy since starting his second term in January, including publicly berating Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a televised Oval Office meeting, accusing him of being uncommitted to peace with Russia.

His administration has since proposed a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, the terms of which Ukraine has agreed to after meeting with US senior leaders in Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

The poll also found widespread concern over Trump’s handling of the economy.

Fifty-seven percent of respondents — including one in three Republicans — believe his policies have been erratic.

His imposition of tariffs on major trading partners, including Canada and Mexico, has rattled stock markets and set off a global trade war.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll also found that nearly half — 44 percent—of respondents support Trump’s plan to condition US military aid to Ukraine on receiving a share of the country’s mineral wealth.

The poll also showed that Americans want Trump to focus more on combating high prices, even as concerns grow that his policies could drive costs up rather than down.

Seventy percent of respondents — including nine in 10 Democrats and six in 10 Republicans — expect higher tariffs to make everyday purchases more expensive.

Despite economic concerns, 44 percent of respondents approve of Trump’s job performance, unchanged from a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted earlier this month.

However, he received particularly low marks on the issue of the cost of living, with only 32 percent approving of his performance.
