Documents released by the House Oversight Committee this week include a Dec. 22, 2018 email exchange between Jeffrey Epstein and Steve Bannon reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating public attacks on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Bannon joined the first Trump administration as an adviser in 2017, but by the time of the exchange, he had left the White House and was back at Breitbart as executive chairman, a position he would step down from a few weeks later.
In one of the emails, Bannon wrote to Epstein, “Can u get rid of Powell or really get rid of Mnuchin,” shortly after Trump publicly blamed the Fed for raising interest rates as markets tumbled. Steven Mnuchin was Trump’s first-term treasury secretary.
