Some people will get an extra Social Security check in November: Here’s why

Usually, Social Security recipients get one check every month. November, however, is going to be a little different.

That’s because many recipients will be getting a second check in the mail thanks to a quirk in the calendar.

Typically the Social Security Administration sends out its Supplemental Social Security Income checks – money for disabled people and seniors living on a low income – on the first of the month, unless that date falls on a weekend or holiday.

Which in this case it does. Dec. 1 falls on a Sunday this year, so as a result, SSI recipients will get two checks in November. The first will arrive on Nov. 1, while the second will come on Nov. 29.

Those who also get monthly Social Security benefits, different from SSI payments, will get three checks this November.

So, sorry to disappoint those hoping for some extra money, but it’s just an early December payment.
