Stock Market Today (July 20, 2026): Sensex Falls Over 500 Points, Nifty Slips As Middle East Tensions Escalate

On Friday both the Nifty and the Sensex shrugged off the sharp downturn across global markets as robust corporate earnings, a surge in information technology stocks and improving investor sentiment lifted domestic equities. The BSE Sensex climbed more than 1,000 points during intraday trade to move above the 78,000 mark. At the close, the BSE Sensex surged 964.58 points, or 1.25 per cent, to close at 78,151.45, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 261.55 points, or 1.09 per cent, to settle at 24,334.30 as investors were hopeful geopolitical concerns will ease soon.
